Fulbright alumna Dr. Rabia Akhtar appointed to Prime Minister's Advisory Council on Foreign Affairs

Fulbright PhD Alumna Dr. Rabia Akhtar has been appointed to the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council on Foreign Affairs. She will be serving in an honorary capacity as a Foreign Policy/Academic expert on the council under the chairmanship of the Foreign Minister of Pakistan Mr. Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Dr. Rabia wil be joined by 9 other policy and academic experts, and 8 Ex-Offico Members including the ministers for Law and Justice, and Minister for Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs.

Dr. Rabia Akhtar is an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department in the School of Integrated Social Sciences at University of Lahore, Pakistan. She is also the founding Director for the Centre for Security, Strategy and Policy Research at University of Lahore. She completed her doctoral degree on a five-year Fulbright scholarship in Security Studies at Kansas State University, USA (2010-2015). Her areas of interest include U.S. foreign policy, South Asian nuclear politics, South Asian strategic stability, politics of nuclear non-proliferation, dynamics of nuclear deterrence and strategy, and theories of International Relations. She is an associate of the Nuclear Proliferation International History Project at the Woodrow Wilson Center, USA. She has authored several publications on managing nuclear risk in South Asia, Conflict Resolution Research in South Asia, and Safety and Security of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons. She contributes regularly on the broader issues of regional security in various national and international dailies. She is the Managing Editor of Pakistan’s first strategic and foreign affairs magazine, Pakistan Politico. Dr. Akhtar has recently authored a book titled 'The Blind Eye: U.S. Non-Proliferation Policy Towards Pakistan from Ford to Clinton'.
